Why we picked it

HairMax has held FDA 510(k) clearances for laser hair devices since 2007, and its LaserComb is one of the few home devices named in independent meta-analyses of pattern hair loss. The LaserBand 41 uses 41 lasers in a curved band with teeth that part the hair, so light reaches the scalp rather than the hair shaft.

Best for

People with pattern thinning who want a laser device from the brand with the longest FDA clearance record, sold from a UK store

Not for

Sudden, patchy or scarring hair loss, which needs a GP or dermatologist first

Quick questions

How often do I need to use it?

HairMax says to use it for 3 minutes per session, three times a week on alternate days. Hold it on each section of scalp for about 30 seconds, then move it. It switches off automatically after 12 minutes.

Who is it designed for?

HairMax says it is best suited to moderate and advanced pattern thinning in men and women. It is an over-the-counter device, so no clinic visit is needed, but speak to your GP or a dermatologist first if your hair loss is sudden or patchy.

How is it powered?

It is cordless with a rechargeable battery charged by USB, rated for over 300 charge cycles. HairMax recommends a full charge before your first treatment. The band has 41 lasers and built-in teeth that part your hair.

What if it does not work for me?

HairMax UK offers a 180 day money-back guarantee (terms apply) and a two year manufacturer warranty. The device costs £599.99 and HairMax says most users who see results do so within about 16 weeks, so give it time before judging.
